University project
For this university project, I had the opportunity to work on a team project for the research group Gezonde Leefstijl in een Stimulerende Omgeving/Healthy Lifestyle in a Supporting Environment (GLSO). The research group aims to promote a healthy lifestyle by developing physical, digital, and social environments and products that elicit healthy behavior.
Problem
Children these days are lacking physical activities. This is a major social problem, because this leads to a less active lifestyle later in life. Research shows that that children will spend more time on sport activities when their motor skills are better developed.
Balancing is one of the fundamental motor skills for a healthy motor development of children. However, children are still learning to balance in traditional ways during P.E. class, for example by walking on a line, bench, or balance beam. As a result, the role of visual perception on the motor learning process is hardly considered.
Goal
Create a concept where video projections are used on balance equipments to stimulate the motor skills as well as the visual perception of children from 4 to 12 years old during P.E. class.
Concept design
Concept Fieldplay transforms the P.E. class into an interactive game where children play against each other to win the game by getting as many points as possible within a time limit. Thus, providing a challenge and experience for children while balancing.
With the use of projectors, audio devices, and wearable sensors, children won't be balancing in an old-fashioned way anymore; they will end up in an interactive world, such as a jungle, lava, or pirate-themed world.
